MOVIE POSTER SIZES
Did you know that up until about 1983 the American movie theater owner had many choices when selecting the posters to promote the next film they were going to be showing? Theaters were able to select everything from small black and white stills (8" x 10") to window cards (14" x 22", a small, but complete poster) to the main survivor, the one-sheet (26 3/4" x 39 3/4", 27" x 40" or 27" x 41"). They could also go as large as the 24-sheets which were used as highway billboards.
Because of high production costs of making so many different sizes combined with the size limitations of the newer multi-plexes all the new posters are one-sheets.
Posters from other countries tend to exist in many sizes, usually somewhere between America's smallest and largest. We will gladly provide more information on specific countries upon request. We would also like to note that as we try
our best to give the correct size of the poster there is at times a variation in size for the different styles.
To get a feel for the size of various posters, compare them to Cinemonica and the typical U.S. one-sheet. She does this scale comparison for posters from the following countries:
America | United Kingdom | France | Australia
